Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe to Olden Wilson, an ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the first child of six. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within one month after her arrival in New York City. The contract was signed by Capitol Records in 1960. The year was 1960 when she released her first single. Guess who I saw today. Her albums were a hit and Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Adderley encouraged her to shift away from R&B in favor of jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 was instrumental to propel her into the spotlight and her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. This brought her a gig in New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America in the year following and she became a star.
