The jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on February 20, 1937, in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the sixth of seven kids. The passion for music that her father had and the records he played at home had a major influence on Nancy when she was a little girl. At just 4 year old, she was certain she'd be a singing star. The talent she developed was cultivated due to her participation in the church choir. When she was still in high school her appearances in Skyline Melodies. In the same year, she began working at nightclubs. Nancy was 17 when she finished high school. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - now Central State University - for one term, Nancy left to be a professional performer. Her first recording was with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. They performed from 1956 until 1958. Nancy released her first album on Dot Records while in the band. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate into New York for her career, and in 1959 she made the move in The Big Town. In just a few months, she was offered a gig singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her voice and agreed to sign her. The contract was signed by Capitol Records in the year 1960. That year, she debuted with the song. Guess Who I See Today? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson's collaboration in 1962 in 1962 with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top, and the year 1963 saw her scoring her first hit Tell Me the Truth. Following that year it led to her being invited to New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
