Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who was employed for a lengthy time as a housekeeper. Nancy was one of six children. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's music taste as well as the music played at her home. As a young girl, she already had a strong sense of who she was and what she wanted to do. Church choirs encouraged her to develop the talent. At the age of 15 and had a chance to win an audition on television and started appearing regularly in the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. At the same age she started working in nightclubs. Nancy quit Central State University in Ohio after she matriculated for an entire year. Her first record was recorded in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made when she was a member of the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball advised her to make the move to New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her singing career. She was commissioned to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx, where Adderley's agent had come across her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 with the single "Girls" after she signed an agreement with Capitol records. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. After Adderley's influences she shifted her focus to R&B towards jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which led to her rise up in the chart. In 1963, she scored her biggest hit through Tell Me the Truth. The following year, she received an invitation to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most sought-after night club in America.
